It’s Floodin’ Down in Texas

I was thinking yesterday about the poor people in Texas (not cash-free, just unfortunate) who’ve been flooded out of their homes, or worse. And I thought about a famous Texan who sang about such an event. A god-of-guitar if you will… the great Stevie Ray Vaughan. And I thought, “If anyone can swoop down and save some folks in his beloved home state, it’s Stevie.” So when I got in my truck after work, I popped the iPod into the FM transmitter, and hit my usual “Shuffle Songs” button… I was taken aback by the song that it chose. Out of the nearly 2800 tracks it had to choose from, my iPod chose “Texas Flood” for me. Not just a song from the Texas Flood album… no… the actual song of the same name. I thought, “It must be a sign from Stevie.” So… people of Texas… Take heart… Stevie is watching over you.

Victor Wooten

Without question, Victor Wooten is one of the greatest bassists of all time. Check him out doing Amazing Grace. Unbelievable!

Songbird will own your media

Get SongbirdIt’s like a good version of iTunes. It has an incredible feature list. It does all of the iTunes media library stuff, but it will also search the web for media, catalogue it for you, and allow you to easily subscribe to media feeds or copy the music or video to your local media library. And because it’s built on the XUL engine from the Mozilla Foundation (the same stuff that makes Firefox), it’s completely cross platform. It’s on my windoze box at work already, but have no doubt that in mere hours it will be on my Mac Mini and my Ubuntu laptop. All this, and it’s still only in “developer preview” version 0.2. Expect to hear more about this very soon.

“Deadheads Are What Liberals Claim to Be But Aren’t”

This is a facinating interview with Ann Coulter from jambands.com in which she reveals that she’s a big deadhead, and has at points in her life smeared herself with purple Crisco. I knew I liked her :) Check it out.

Wake N Bake w/ Modern Skirts

I know I keep talking about Modern Skirts, but they rule… so deal! Anyway, the coolest thing happened last night. 1) It was cool because my good friend Mack came to town and had dinner with E and I, and 2) it was further cooled by the fact that we had said dinner at Wild Wing at which they have the new Terrapin Wake N Bake Oatmeal Imperial Stout. But then… just when I thought it couldn’t get any cooler, who’s CD comes on for background music… That’s right; Modern Skirts Baby! Sooooo cool. I know they’re an Athens band, and it shouldn’t be so amazing to hear them in an Athens restaurant; but it was damnit :) I guess it was just that it was the first time I’d heard their music when I wasn’t expecting it. I think that’s a milestone. Other people who don’t know me, and who presumably don’t know the guys in the band, thought enough of their music to have their CD on rotation for their customers’ listening pleasure. How cool!!

Also… you really need to get you some of that new Terrapin… Holy Crap!

Catalogue of Generous Men, by Modern SkirtsYou read me right people. Everyone’s favorite band (someday that will be true) Modern Skirts now have their first full-length album, Catalogue of Generous Men, available on the iTunes Music Store. If you already own the CD, go post a review, and if you don’t, go buy the tracks on iTunes AND go buy the CD! This album, for those who don’t know, is one of the best I’ve owned regardless of the artist’s renowned, genre, or era. I can’t highly recommend it to everyone enough.
