Just a little food for thought as you ponder your vote in the primaries (either cast or to-be-cast):

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – According to a report released Tuesday by the National Taxpayers Union, Texas Congressman Ron Paul is the only remaining presidential candidate who proposes net spending cuts.

According to the report, Congressman Paul’s proposals would cut government spending by over $150 billion, a conservative estimate of the spending reductions Dr. Paul has proposed. The report concludes that the other remaining Republican candidates, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee, have proposed spending increases of $19.5 billion, $6.9 billion and $54 billion respectively.

“It should come as no surprise that when you crunch the numbers Ron Paul is the only Republican who would actually shrink the size and cost of the federal government,” said Ron Paul campaign economic advisor Don Luskin. “Romney, McCain and Huckabee don’t hold a candle to Ron Paul – the only true fiscal conservative running for President.”

In ten terms in Congress, Ron Paul has never voted for a tax increase or for an unbalanced budget.

Ron Is Winning

You probably don’t know that, but he is. He’s the only candidate fit to recite the oath of office because he’s the only one who’s actually demonstrated his unwavering defense of the Constitution against all enemies, not just talked about it. My proof that he’s winning? Ok… how about yesterday’s IA Caucus results. He didn’t beat everyone, in fact he came in 5th. However, 3, 4, and 5 were separated by only a couple hundred votes, and he got more than double the votes of Giuliani. That’s a huge win for a “fringe” candidate who didn’t really spend much time or money in Iowa.

My other evidence is a national straw poll being conducted by AOL. While all of the other “national polls” only call land-line phones (who has those anymore, or answers when it says “out of area”), and only those whom they’ve already determined “likely voters”, this poll is online and has been going for months. In any case, this poll shows Dr. Paul up by 10 points as of this posting. 28% to 18% over Huckabee to be exact. The poll is interesting too because it’s broken down by state. Give it a look, and vote for yourself.

Paul Campaign Raises Over $5,000,000 In Third Quarter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – The Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign raised $5,080,000 during the third quarter of 2007. That is an impressive 114 percent increase from the second quarter.

Cash on hand for the Paul campaign is $5,300,000.

“Dr. Paul’s message is freedom, peace and prosperity,” said Paul campaign chairman Kent Snyder. “As these fundraising numbers show, more Americans each day are embracing Dr. Paul’s message.”

Ron Paul’s 114 percent increase is in stark contrast to the decrease suffered by Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and John McCain. Romney’s fundraising was down 29 percent. Giuliani was down 40 percent. McCain was down 55 percent.

This country may turn out to the the “land of the free” after all.

Google Predicts a Ron Paul Win

According to this blog post at njection.com, google trends accurately predicted the outcome of the 2004 election. While this isn’t exactly a scientifically exhaustive study, you might find his results interesting nonetheless due to the sheer volume of data that google trends is crunching. Not only does performing some comparisons show that Ron Paul has far-and-away the most interested searchers on the web, but the story-volume report also shows how under reported he is in the media. It’s nice to see real data backing up the media bias that we all know empirically to exist.

2600 Turns 30

I just found out this morning that the Atari 2600, the granddaddy of all video game consoles, turns 30 this month. This news comes with the realization that I’m even cooler than I thought, because the 2600 and I were born a mere 8 months apart It’s pretty cool to have ushered in the video game era. Ron Paul Raises a Million

The Ron Paul campaign started a fund raising drive on Monday of last week (9/24). Their goal was to raise $500,000 before the end of the 3rd quarter (9/30). After reaching that goal by Thursday (only 4 days), they upped the ante and asked their online supporters for a cool million. Let’s just say that we came through in a big way. As I type this, the quarter has just about 2 hours left to live, and the total money donated to Ron Paul from online supporters just this week is $1,156,860.08. That, my friends, is the power of the message of freedom. We really can change this country, and put it back on the right track, the constitutional track. Please help.

Ron Paul is the best Presidential candidate I’ve heard speak… probably ever. If you watch this and still don’t vote for him, then I have very, very little hope for this country.

Thank You for Choosing Our Monopoly

Our local phone monopoly was, until very recently, Bellsouth. They were surprisingly responsive to problems, and did a general good job of keeping me flush w/ phone and internet (DSL) service. With all of the baby-bells coming home (read: AT&T is buying everyone) however, our monopoly has changed hands. Bellsouth and Cingular are now AT&T. So, naturally, our phone (and thus internet) was out from around Monday to late last night (Wednesday). When I call them, they alway sign-off the call with “Thank you for choosing AT&T.” That really is one of my biggest pet-peeves. I always have to fight the urge to say, “Had I a choice, I certainly would NOT have chosen YOU!” Harsh… I know… but damn… I really don’t have a choice. Our local cable monopoly (Charter) is worse (much worse) than AT&T. So what can I do? It always reminds me of the old 70′s SNL skit where the quote was, “We don’t care. We don’t have to. We’re the phone company.” It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t true.

I’ll tell you this though. The very day that either Google or Georgia Power, or anyone for that matter, releases broadband-over-power-lines, or even a decent Wi-Fi solution, I’m jumping to their ship for internet and VOIP phone. If my damned AT&T wireless cell phone worked at my house, I probably wouldn’t even have a home phone. Grrrrrr….

O Google!.. please release us from the tyranny of the local cable and phone monopolies, that we may bask in your glory and sing unto thee hymns of praise.

It’s Floodin’ Down in Texas

I was thinking yesterday about the poor people in Texas (not cash-free, just unfortunate) who’ve been flooded out of their homes, or worse. And I thought about a famous Texan who sang about such an event. A god-of-guitar if you will… the great Stevie Ray Vaughan. And I thought, “If anyone can swoop down and save some folks in his beloved home state, it’s Stevie.” So when I got in my truck after work, I popped the iPod into the FM transmitter, and hit my usual “Shuffle Songs” button… I was taken aback by the song that it chose. Out of the nearly 2800 tracks it had to choose from, my iPod chose “Texas Flood” for me. Not just a song from the Texas Flood album… no… the actual song of the same name. I thought, “It must be a sign from Stevie.” So… people of Texas… Take heart… Stevie is watching over you.
