Better than the Wii News Channel

I’ll just come out with it… I love the Nintendo Wii. It’s excellent and the most fun I’ve had w/ video games in years. But it’s even cooler now thanks to the team at Google Reader (of course, who makes all web stuff cooler every chance they get?). When you use the new Opera Browser for the Wii (the Internet Channel) to go to the Google Reader you’ll see a special version. Go see this story on the Google Reader Blog to see what I’m talking about. They didn’t just make it look better on a small rez screen… they took advantage of the 1 & 2 buttons, made special popup menus for links and feeds, and just generally made it useful on the Wii. I’ll be using this a lot. It’s right up there with Viidelectrix. Well done again Google. I, for one, welcome our new Google masters.

Key To Crime Reduction: Promote Gun Ownership

That’s what the residents of Kennesaw, GA learned and have known since they passed a 1982 law requiring each head of household to own and maintain a gun. Since then, the town has become well known on the world stage, a tourist attraction, and mocked and jeered as becoming a “Wild West” town by leftist rags such as the Washington Post. Predictably, however, the Post continues its streak of coming down on the wrong side of nearly every issue by being completely wrong about crime rate trends. You see, Kennesaw passed its law in response to the passage of an opposite law in Morton Grove, IL, which banned gun ownership by everyone but police. So, of course, Morton Grove was praised and Kennesaw chided in the most righteous, mighty and ever present main-stream-media. They postulated that Morton Grove would see a precipitous drop in its crime rate, while Kennesaw would become a haven for gun-loving nut-jobs where simple arguments would end in a shoot out.

The statistics speak for themselves however. Since the respective gun laws passed:

Morton Grove:

  • Population: Dropped slightly to 22,202
  • Crime Rate: Increased by 15.7 percent immediately after the gun ban while the surrounding county rate only rose by 3 percent. Today the rate is 2,268 per 100,000

Kennesaw

  • Population: Increased from 5,242 to 28,189
  • Crime Rate: Decreased dramatically from 4,332, to 2,027 per 100,000

So, to sum up: Morton Grove experienced an increase in crime even while getting help from a decreasing population. While Kennesaw has seen a precipitous drop in crime, even under the challenge of a skyrocketing population. I may not be a statistician, but I think, just maybe, that the knowledge that a population is well armed makes even the dumbest criminals think twice about breaking into a home. Even more surprising to our friends in the media must be the fact that “not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting – as a victim, attacker or defender.”

This information gives a strong boost to the intelligence of our founding fathers considering their knowledge that gun ownership and freedom is so important. They found it to be of such paramount importance in fact, that it is addressed as the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution. They knew that not only can the government not be counted on to protect the citizens from each other, the citizens will surely need one day to protect themselves from the government. This has been proved throughout the 20th century. The entities which are far-and-away responsible for the most killings of people are governments. Most of these killings have been of their own citizens. No government, no matter how benevolent today, will not remain so for very long. Once any government ceases to fear its citizens, those citizens are surely doomed. I hear constant cries from idiots to take the guns away from citizens and only allow government approved officers (police) to have them. This was exactly the situation on the campus of VA Tech. I beg you to realize that passing laws banning guns only keeps guns out of the hands of the law-abiding.

Most of the information for this post came from a great article on World Net Daily. I highly recommend you read it for yourself. Reuters carried the story recently as well. They didn’t mention the stats so much as they talked about while the crime rate is down, and that of Morton Grove is up, Kennesaw is still a redneck town with a shop that has Civil War and KKK regalia. Sure, I’m sure that store is there. News Flash: Redneck racist idiots still exist in the south. However, the story is the gun laws and their respective effects on the crime and population stats in their towns. I wouldn’t expect Reuters to write a story that paints anything conservative or pro US Constitution in a positive light, but I would expect that they’d at least mention the facts amongst their blatant attempts to turn the world against us. Oh well.

New JS Book by jQuery Creator

If you haven’t checked out jQuery, and you build websites for a living (or a hobby), you’re definitely working too hard on your js. jQuery is awesome, and it’s creator, John Resig, has just published a new book on Javascript called “Pro Javascript Techniques (jspro.org).” John has certainly proved his mettle by not only creating jQuery, but sharing it with the world as an open-source project. I’ll be buying mine, and I strongly suggest you get yours.

Restoring my faith in humanity (a little)

I saw this article today entitled “Why Do They CAIR about Jack Bauer?”. It’s written by M. Zuhdi Jasser, an American Muslim who has it exactly right. Please take the time to read this. It’s quite refreshing considering everything we hear on the MSM promoting appeasement of the Islamic Facist movement. Here’s a short segment to pique your interest.

As an American and as a Muslim, I find 24 to be not only a profoundly engaging program, but one whose portrayal of Muslims in quite fair. In the show, the president’s sister works for a “leading” Muslim civil-rights organization in D.C.; she is portrayed as a protector of constitutional freedoms. The head of this Muslim organization, who is in detention, reports to authorities on prisoners’ terrorism-related conversations that have alarmed him.

The show also shows the darker, extremist side of Islam — for example, an Arab-Muslim youth, a previously beloved neighbor in suburban L.A., turns out to be a terrorist thug who provides a key part of the nuclear device while terrorizing his friend’s family. This is another, undeniable part of today’s Muslim reality: While suitcase nuclear devices have yet to be used, the threat is there, and such characters are probably quite true to life in their depiction of members of al Qaeda cells or other jihadist networks in the West.

Which are, of course, the immortal words of Annie Pots in her capacity as the secretary to the Ghost Busters (Janine Melnitz) in the original (and best) movie. So, Wii played it all day yesterday after waking up at 5:30am an getting 1 of the 5 that CC in Athens had. Yes… you may touch Mii.

Marine Corps Rules for Gun Fighting

I just saw the best post I’ve ever seen at the evangelical outpost. I quoted the list from that site below for safe keeping. It’s that good. I’m totally serial…

We’ll consider this a belated thank you to everyone who’s ever served our country in the military. Words can not express my thanks and gratitude.

Thinking about my friends who are getting shot at by ungrateful Iraqis reminded me of this list, an old Corps favorite, on how to act in a gun fight:

  1. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.
  2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
  3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.
  4. If your shooting stance is good, you’re probably not moving fast enough nor using cover correctly.
  5. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movement are preferred.)
  6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.
  7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
  8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running.
  9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on “pucker factor” than the inherent accuracy of the gun.
  10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
  11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
  12. Have a plan.
  13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won’t work.
  14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
  15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
  16. Don’t drop your guard.
  17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees.
  18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them.
  19. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.
  20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
  21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
  22. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
  23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
  24. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with a “4.”

sniff… sniff… We’re Disenfranchised!!

I saw a study on the news this morning that said that rain on election day favors Republicans because more Democrats stay home. They didn’t say why…. But my first thought was that I was expecting the next story on the news to be that protests had erupted outside of local churches where picketers were claiming that they were being disenfranchised by God. I’m just sayin’… Those people love them some victimhood.

Linux…

…gives us the power to CRUSH all those who oppose us!

Hehehe… Funny cartoon.
